A 51-year-old habitual offender was sentenced to 45 years for his role in a double murder at a restaurant in Houston’s Little Saigon neighborhood in 2022, announced Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg.
“Two of the three men responsible for this violent double murder have been brought to justice,” Ogg said. “Now we need the public’s help to find the third suspect and hold him accountable.”

“Our job is to protect the community, and in this case it means ensuring that this woman never be allowed to be a nurse again,” Ogg said. “Being a nurse, or any health care worker, carries an incredible amount of responsibility, and anyone who does not maintain the highest level of integrity should not be allowed to work in that field.”

Buck Oddason McCoy, 43, worked to ingratiate himself into different families beginning in 2012 and continuing for eight years. McCoy would work to gain the trust of parents and then take advantage of that trust by molesting the girls, usually ages 10 to 12, when he was taking care of them.
A Honduran man who lived in Houston was sentenced to life in prison this week for repeatedly sexually assaulting two girls and then trying to kill both and burn down their house in 2020, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said.
“We have to protect our community, our children, from monsters like this,” Ogg said. “Not only did he sexually assault two little girls, he tried to kill them and burn their house down to cover his tracks. He is a predator.”
Jose Orbin Martinez-Lopez, 46, was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 14. Martinez-Lopez cannot appeal the conviction.
A Houston man who made headlines when he was caught on camera carjacking an elderly couple in Briar Forest and then committing a murder on the same day was sentenced to 80 years in prison by a Harris County jury, District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
“This was not an isolated incident — this man was intentionally and deliberately using a gun to threaten, steal and kill,” Ogg said. “His actions affected so many people in such terrible ways that the only just resolution is that he spend decades in prison.”
Michael Coates, 21, was convicted of murder on Friday for shooting 29-year-old Marcus Mercado, a father of two, during a midday altercation on Feb. 11, 2023, near a convenience store at the 9800 block of Meadowglen Lane.
A Houston man was sentenced to life in prison without parole for robbing and killing a recent graduate of Lone Star College who owned his own business repairing cellphones, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
“This is a heartbreaking case because the victim was a young man who had so much potential and so much of his life still ahead of him,” Ogg said. “No one should have to fear being robbed and killed as they try to build a business and live a productive life.”
Jarell Carelone Barrows, 22, was convicted of capital murder on Thursday for shooting 22-year-old Emmanuel Browne during a daytime robbery around 1:10 p.m. on April 29, 2021.

The third and final defendant convicted of killing 71-year-old Martha Medina by dragging her during a daytime purse snatching outside an east Harris County McDonald’s has been sentenced to 50 years in prison, District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
