A 32-year-old man from Humble was sentenced to life in prison for shooting his girlfriend during an argument in 2021, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
“Like far too many domestic violence cases that we see, this was a senseless murder that did not have to happen,” Ogg said. “We all know how fast violence in a troubled relationship can escalate to murder, and that is why we take any and all allegations of abuse so seriously.”
Cameron Michael Davis was sentenced to life late Friday after a Harris County jury found him guilty of murder for killing 27-year-old Ryniscia Sanford around noon on Sept. 23, 2021.
A 33-year-old Tomball woman was sentenced to 50 years in prison this week for killing her boyfriend’s 4-year-old daughter in 2019, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
“We have to work together as a community to protect our children who are particularly vulnerable to abuse from violent adults,” Ogg said. “We are thankful to the jurors who recognized that this was not a single incident, but a pattern of abuse and rightfully sentenced this woman to spend decades behind bars.”
Shawna Hooey, 33, was tasked with taking care of 4-year-old Jakyzia Alexander along with her own five children when she took the little girl to a 24-hour emergency center on Sept. 7, 2019.
A 28-year-old man was sentenced to 55 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for shooting a husband and father of two in the parking lot of a club in south Houston in 2022, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
“We are thankful to the jury who recognized that this defendant went to extraordinary lengths to find and then gun down an unarmed man in broad daylight,” Ogg said. “Justice mandates that this killer spend decades behind bars for taking the life of a young father and husband who should have lived to see his kids grow up.”
Luis Alejandro Valencia was convicted of murder and sentenced by a jury late Friday for shooting 29-year-old Erik Villeda on Feb. 12, 2022.
A member of one of Houston’s most infamous street gangs, the 52 Hoover Crips, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for shooting a neighbor in 2020, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
“When a gang member shoots up a house, brutally murders a man and is so confident he will get away with murder that he brags about it, we see exactly how pervasive gun violence is in our community,” Ogg said. “We mourn for the victim’s family and thank the jury for ending this gang member’s reign of terror.”
Robert E. Chenier, 32, was sentenced late Friday after being convicted by a Harris County jury of murder in the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Shaun Lewis near Houston’s Clinton Park neighborhood on Nov. 23, 2020.
A 60-year-old Houston man who killed two people and injured a third as part of a “list” of people he wanted dead was sentenced this week to 90 years in prison, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
“Our prosecutors work hard to bring cases like this to trial to get justice for victims’ families who should not have to wait this long,” Ogg said. “This defendant played every game in the book to delay trial, but he was finally held accountable for his actions, and now, hopefully, the victims and families of the victims can move past this horrible episode.”
Russell Cormier was 53 when he fatally shot his ex-wife outside of her home and then drove to a former co-worker’s place of employment and killed him as part of a two-day crime spree across northeast Houston.
A Houston man who married three different women since 2019 was sentenced to three years in prison after committing bigamy again two months after being put on probation for bigamy, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
“At the heart of this repeat offender’s schemes was a plan to defraud women and take advantage of them for financial gain,” Ogg said. “This man used the church to camouflage his scams and hide from any accountability or responsibility.”
Orlando Coleman, 51, was sentenced last week to three years in prison for marrying a third woman just two months after being put on probation for being married to two other women at the same time.
A Houston man who fatally shot an acquaintance on an August morning in 2019 was sentenced this week to 77 years in prison, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
“We mourn with the family for the loss of this young man who was gunned down in the prime of his life,” Ogg said. “It shocks the senses to realize that this violent gun crime took place in broad daylight. We sought justice for the victim and the family, and now this defendant will spend decades, and maybe his whole life, in prison.”
Cory Cornell Parker, 32, was convicted of murder by a Harris County jury in a four-day trial and sentenced Tuesday by a judge for killing 30-year-old Marcus Ealy on August 22, 2019.
The mastermind who orchestrated a fatal ambush that killed an 11-year-old boy and the boy’s stepfather in their driveway in 2020 was sentenced to life in prison without parole this week, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
“This defendant’s intentions were clear: he wanted to commit murder and was trying to hide behind the triggerman who killed an innocent man and a little boy in broad daylight,” Ogg said. “We are grateful to the jurors who agreed that a capital murder conviction is the right result because it means this man can never again threaten our community.”
Dewayne Batiste, 43, was convicted of capital murder for his role in killing 11-year-old Dominic Sumicek and his 41-year-old stepfather, Menuell Solomon, as the two sat in Solomon’s car outside their home on October 26, 2020.
An armed robber who killed a convenience store clerk in 2019 was sentenced this week to life in prison for murder, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
“This defendant had no regard for anyone else when he used a gun to rob and steal, and now the victim’s family will never again see this hardworking and beloved woman,” Ogg said. “This agreement ensures that the defendant will spend decades in prison with no appeals.”
Marcus Kenneth Cox-Davis, 24, was facing life in prison without parole if convicted of capital murder for shooting 32-year-old Donna Peña, a mother of two who was killed while working at a gas station in northwest Harris County on March 8, 2019.
A Crosby man who repeatedly sexually assaulted a 13-year-old child beginning in 2017 was sentenced to life in prison by a Harris County jury, District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.
“Crimes like this that happen under the cover of darkness need to be brought to the light so that we can get justice for the victim and their family,” Ogg said. “And Texas law allows juries to sentence predators who do things like this to life in prison without the possibility of parole, which is the right result.”
Roger Allan Smith, 55, was convicted of continuous sexual assault of a child for repeatedly abusing a child who was part of his extended family while other family members were out of the home or asleep.
