A 30-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison late Friday after being convicted of murder for a shooting in Houston’s Near Northside neighborhood in 2022, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

“This was an ambush that happened in a Houston neighborhood at 11:30 in the morning,” Ogg said. “Everything about this crime speaks to a complete disregard for human life—we’re glad that the jury saw fit to hand down the maximum sentence.”

Quinnton R. Allen, 30, was sentenced to life by the Harris County jury who convicted him of murder earlier in the day for the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Luis Espinoza on June 18, 2022.

“Law enforcement and our prosecutors worked hard to untangle and uncover all of the evil acts committed by this man and get justice for these girls who are now women,” Ogg said. “Hopefully, this man will never again be alone in the same room with a child and can never hurt anyone again.”

Jose Luis Pena was convicted by a jury last week of aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 14. Jurors first heard that he molested one girl once and another girl several times over three years beginning in 1998.

Stuart Fraser White, a 66-year-old man who was working as a chiropractor but was not licensed in Texas, was sentenced on Tuesday by a judge after a Harris County jury found White guilty of super aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of six during a 14-day jury trial that ended in December.

A financial administrator who embezzled more than $1 million from the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

“Prosecuting white-collar crime like this is an important priority because stealing from small businesses and nonprofits doesn’t just hurt the organization, it hurts the people those organizations are trying to help,” Ogg said. “The evidence our Public Corruption Division uncovered was so overwhelming that this defendant really had no choice but to take responsibility.”

Jamie Huffar, 47, pleaded guilty Friday to two first-degree felonies, including theft and forgery, for stealing over $1 million from the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce between November 2017 and November 2022.
