A 43-year-old man from Alvarado, a small town south of Dallas-Fort Worth, was sentenced last week in Houston to life in prison without parole for molesting six young girls in different places, including Harris County, District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

“This is exactly the kind of predator who deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison,” Ogg said. “He abused children, the most vulnerable people in our community, and showed over and over that he cannot be trusted.”

Buck Oddason McCoy, 43, worked to ingratiate himself into different families beginning in 2012 and continuing for eight years. McCoy would work to gain the trust of parents and then take advantage of that trust by molesting the girls, usually ages 10 to 12, when he was taking care of them.

Although McCoy’s listed address was in Alvarado, he had been living in the Houston area since about 2016. He was arrested by deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in 2022 after outcries from victims about what he did.

During a four-day trial last week, McCoy was convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child. Jurors heard testimony from six victims before sentencing him to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Thursday.

ADAs Danielle Oxford, who is a chief in the DA’s Crime Against Children Division, and Nisha King-Hawkins, who is also assigned to that division, prosecuted the case.

“We’re proud of the victims who had the courage to testify against their attacker and thankful that the jury held this defendant accountable for what he did,” Oxford said. “The jury saw and heard a lot of evidence that was difficult to listen to, and they made the decision to protect every child in our community from ever being hurt by this man again.”

McCoy will never be eligible for parole.
