Eric Kugler, Post Conviction Bureau Chief
Eric Kugler grew up in Woodstock, New York, and attended Fordham University, after which he did a tour of duty in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, where he was sent to work at AIDS Services of Dallas for a year. He then earned his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law, where he was an associate editor of the Review of Litigation law journal.
In 1996, he graduated from law school, passed the Texas bar exam, and was hired by Johnny Holmes to work at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office—where he has been ever since. He has worked in the Writs Division, was Division Chief of the Appellate Division, and was the Harris County DWI Prosecutor of the Year in 2008. He is on the Publications Committee of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association and was an author of that organization’s Warrants Manual.
