  • Car Wash Manager Sentenced to 30 Years For Killing Former Employee

A 34-year-old car wash manager was sentenced to 30 years in prison this week for fatally shooting a former employee in 2018, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

“Trying to solve a disagreement with a gun is one of the reasons gun violence is out of control,” Ogg said. “This defendant left the scene to go get a gun, and then he came back and started shooting, leaving the victim’s grieving family to pick up the pieces.”

Logan Sheffield, of Houston, pleaded guilty to murder in May on the eve of trial. As part of his plea deal, he asked that a judge determine his punishment after a pre-sentence investigation.

  • Charges Filed Against Habitual Offender Accused of Shooting Police Officers

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has filed four charges of attempted capital murder of a peace officer against 34-year-old Terran Doral Green for shooting at law enforcement officers on two separate occasions this week, District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

“Anyone who would shoot at uniformed police officers presents the greatest level of threat to our community,” Ogg said. “That kind of person will stop at nothing, and our prosecutors are already working on the case.”

Green is accused of shooting a Harris County Sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop on Wednesday. The deputy is expected to survive. During a stand-off in an Humble neighborhood on Thursday night, Green also shot at three other officers, two with the U.S. Marshal Service and one with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

  • Antonio Armstrong Jr. Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murdering His Parents

A Houston jury on Wednesday found 23-year-old Antonio Armstrong Jr. guilty of capital murder for fatally shooting his parents as they slept in their bedroom in 2016, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced. Because he was convicted of capital murder, Armstrong was automatically sentenced to life in prison.

“Antonio Sr. and Dawn died because they were trying to be good parents. Because they wanted their children to do right, not to lie, to work, to be law-abiding contributing adults,” Ogg said. “And for that, they paid with their lives.”

Armstrong Jr. was 16 when he shot his parents as they slept in the master bedroom of their Bellaire-area home on July 29, 2016. He shot both in the head. The teenager had recently been expelled from school and was angry at his parents for disciplining him for misbehaving.

A Houston woman pleaded guilty Friday to murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison for luring a 24-year-old man to a remote area where he was brutally attacked by gang members with a machete and then fatally shot, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

“This defendant jumped bail in 2021 to escape the consequences of her actions, but she was re-arrested and, on the eve of trial this week, pleaded guilty for what she did,” Ogg said. “This was a premeditated and planned out attack and we have now been able to get justice for the victim’s family.”

Karla Jackelin Morales, 24, pleaded guilty and agreed to 30 years in prison right before a jury was selected in her trial for the murder of Jose Alfonso Villanueva on July 29, 2018.

  • Former HISD Secretary to Pay Restitution for Embezzlement, Small Fire

A former secretary at a Houston Independent School District elementary school pleaded guilty this week to stealing about $35,000 in school activity funds and will pay the money back, as well as paying to repair damage from a small fire that she set to divert attention, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

“Investigating and prosecuting white-collar crime takes time, experts and resources, and it is a priority of our office,” Ogg said. “It is important to the integrity of our public institutions that we seek justice in cases where someone has been stealing taxpayer money, and, if possible, to see that the money is paid back.”

Adriana Castorena-Narvaez pleaded guilty and was convicted Thursday of felony misapplication of fiduciary property in exchange for five years of felony probation and restitution to HISD in the amount of $37,521.64.

  • Houston Child Molester Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison Without Parole

A Houston child molester was sentenced to 40 years in prison Thursday for sexually assaulting four girls, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

“Every adult in a child’s life has to stay vigilant because predators like this man lie, mislead and trick whomever they can in order to get close to children,” Ogg said. “This man stole the childhood from these girls, and the law rightfully puts him prison without the chance of parole to serve every day of a 40-year sentence.”

Alvaro Jeronimo Juarez, 32, was sentenced by a judge after a jury convicted him of continuous sexual assault of a child for raping a 5-year-old many times beginning in 2009. Three other victims testified that Juarez raped them as well. Typically, he began assaulting the girls at age 5, and it went on until they were about 10.

  • East Texas Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Houston Murder

An East Texas man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for murder after he took responsibility and pleaded guilty to shooting a man while buying LSD in 2018, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

“This was a pointless murder that didn’t have to happen,” Ogg said. “By getting justice for the victim’s family, they are able to have some closure and move forward with their grief.”

Jace Weeks, 24, pleaded guilty last week to murder in the shooting death of 31-year-old Sam Kyle James on April 30, 2018.

  • Houston Father Who Killed Toddler and Brutally Injured Newborn Sentenced to 50 Years in Prison

A Houston father who killed his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son and then, nine months later, seriously injured his own newborn son was sentenced to 50 years in prison Wednesday, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

“Children are the most innocent and vulnerable people in our community, and when a child abuser hurts, maims and kills them, we work hard to get justice for the victims and their family,” Ogg said. “This child abuser deserves to spend decades, and hopefully the rest of his life, in prison.”

Austin Reid, 25, was sentenced Wednesday by visiting state District Judge Mike Wilkinson for the death of 2-year-old Lucas Samora in 2019 and the serious injury of Reid’s newborn son in January 2020.

  • Child Molester Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison Without Parole

A repeat-offender child molester has been sentenced to spend every day of a 40-year prison sentence behind bars for repeatedly raping a 6-year-old girl, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced.

“Unfortunately, we live in a time where parents have to be more than just vigilant, they have to be overprotective because monsters like this walk amongst us,” Ogg said. “There is nothing we can do to give this girl her childhood back, but we can do our best to get justice, and that means putting him in prison until he is 80 years old.”

Brian Alexander Washington, 39, was convicted by a Harris County jury of continuous sexual assault of a child for repeatedly molesting a girl beginning when she was 6 and continuing for a year and a half.
