The man who gunned down a Baytown mother in a 2020 home invasion was sentenced to life in prison on Friday, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said.
A Houston man was sentenced to 45 years in prison for shooting an 8-year-old in the knee during an argument in Houston’s Third Ward in 2019, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Thursday.
“This repeat offender shot an 8-year-old and then, while free on bond, was arrested for stealing catalytic converters from City of Houston vehicles,” Ogg said. “He has had enough second chances and he cannot be trusted to live by the rules in our society.”
Richard Spiller, 31, was facing a punishment range of 25 years to life in prison because of his criminal history. A jury found him guilty of aggravated assault causing bodily injury, and visiting state District Judge Jim Anderson sentenced him on Wednesday to 45 years in prison.
A Houston man with five prior convictions for driving while intoxicated has been convicted of felony murder for killing another driver in a drunken driving crash in 2018, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Friday.
“This is a repeat offender who was on parole for driving drunk when he killed a husband and father of four,” Ogg said. “He was a one-man crime wave on wheels, and it was just a matter of time until he killed someone.”
“We followed the evidence and stood up for Antonio Armstrong Sr. and Dawn Armstrong, who were murdered in their bed. We appreciate the time, effort and diligence of jurors as they were presented all the evidence in this brutal attack.”

A jury sentenced Robert Solis to death Wednesday for murdering Harris County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal, whom he shot during a 2019 traffic stop.
“The defendant executed a uniformed deputy by shooting him in in cold blood in broad daylight. That makes him the worst of the worst, which is why we asked jurors to sentence him to death,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said.
Punishment has been decided for the man found guilty of capital murder in the shooting death of Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal. Robert Solis has been sentenced to death.
Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg recognized two major partners in the fight against domestic violence by donating nearly $442,000 at the unveiling of a new family violence services facility.
Ogg presented the monetary awards Friday to the Harris County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council and Houston Area Women’s Center in the amounts of $261,900 and $180,034, respectively.
A Houston man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for capital murder for killing a man during a carjacking in Spring in 2015, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Tuesday.
“The capital murder of Michael Aldana during a carjacking was part of a night-long crime spree that included four other violent armed robberies and a police chase,” Ogg said. “This defendant used a gun to rob and kill and has still never shown any remorse for gunning down a stranger for a quick score.”
Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in finding additional victims of a former deputy constable accused of stealing from Vietnamese businesses while in uniform, District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Tuesday.
“He used a badge to coerce, intimidate and steal and we believe there are more victims who have yet to come forward,” Ogg said. “The community needs to know that everyone is accountable under the law whether they are wearing a uniform or not.”
A Cypress man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without parole for killing a Good Samaritan on a New Year’s Day at a restaurant in Chinatown, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said Thursday.
“He was a ring leader who sent masked gunmen into a family restaurant,” Ogg said. “People deserve to be safe when they sit down to celebrate a holiday meal with the people they love.”
