A Houston man was sentenced to life in prison for using a hammer to murder a woman he was having a relationship with in 2018, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Wednesday.
After jurors convicted Luis Moron Romero, 40, of murder, they also heard that he was implicated in a second murder and gave him the maximum sentence.
A 22-year-old Houston man arrested for being a prolific con artist was sentenced this week to eight years in prison for fraud and forgery, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Wednesday.
“This con artist used all the tools in the scammer’s tool bag to lie, cheat and steal, and he was even doing it when he was free on bail,” Ogg said. “He stole other people’s money to live a life of luxury, which continued even while he was on the run from the law.”
A Houston man who was repeatedly arrested for forging deeds to sell property that he did not own, across counties that included Harris, Polk and San Jacinto, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Monday.
“People need to know that scams like this exist, and the scammers often target the elderly,” Ogg said. “And it’s important that these predators know that there are real consequences, including giving back all the money and prison time.”
A member of Houston’s 103 gang was sentenced to life in prison for murdering an innocent bystander during a brazen daytime drive-by shooting in 2017, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Wednesday.
“Gangs are violent and reckless and, like in this case, sometimes take the lives of people who are completely innocent,” Ogg said. "Gangs terrorize communities and it is heartbreaking and absolutely unacceptable that Mr. Johnson was killed as he walked home from work.”
A statewide group is commending a program, under the leadership of District Attorney Kim Ogg, for its “outstanding” results in keeping the community safer by helping mentally ill people instead of locking them up.
The Mental Health Jail Diversion Program has been so successful at efficiently using tax dollars and improving people’s lives that the Texas Association of Counties is honoring the effort with its 2022 County Best Practices Award.
An MS-13 gang member pleaded guilty to murder for his role in a fatal shooting of a witness. The result means that all seven gang members involved in the death of a 16-year-old witness have been convicted and sentenced to prison, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Monday.
“We have spent years fighting for justice for the victim of the treacherous ambush, and we are satisfied that everyone involved has been held responsible,” Ogg said. “His guilty plea ensures he can’t appeal his conviction and that the victim’s family can mourn their loss with the knowledge that his sentence is final.”
